ITIL® (IT Infrastructure Library) is the most widely accepted approach to IT Service Management in the world. It provides a cohesive set of best practices drawn from the public and private sectors internationally. It is a rigid test to ensure the software complies with a set of standards for service management and full traceability for all operations.

The ITIL® framework is part of the foundation for the COBIT model and addresses most of the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act from an IT systems perspective.
